FOX broadcasting's UFC card looks promising January 24, 2012 3:04 AM by Louis D’Andrilli

The UFC continues its busy early season schedule with its second stint on FOX. This card has been heavily promoted during the NFL playoffs and is stacked with three huge fights.

All the prelims can be seen on Fuel TV, with the main card beginning on FOX at 5 p.m. All the action takes place at the United Center in Chicago.

Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis: Two great wrestlers square off for possibly the next shot at Jon Jones. Rashad certainly has the experience advantage, with Davis getting his first real test in the UFC. Rashad is giving up some height and reach in this battle.

Both are former D1 standout wrestlers in the Big 10 and the difference might come down to striking. In that department Rashad has a very big advantage with his speed and power. I think at +155 there is definitely some value on the underdog. DAVIS via decision.

Chael Sonnen vs. Michael Bisping: This fight determines who faces Anderson Silva in Sao Paulo, Brazil in the summer. A terrible matchup for Bisping, who lacks the finishing power to hurt Chael Sonnen will get in his face and use his relentless wrestling to take Bisping down and control him.

I don’t think he will finish Bisping, as he is very hard to keep down and has great submission defense, but a clear cut decision is likely. Don’t expect fireworks, but will be effective, impressive performance from Chael. SONNEN -425 via decision.

Chris Weidman vs. Demian Maia: A great wrestler / jiu jitsu matchup as Weidman gets his first test in the UFC. Oddly enough the prospect has opened as the favorite. Maia has been beating people up in UFC for a while now, throwing great wrestlers around and submitted them. Weidman hasn’t faced anyone with the jiu jitsu prowess Maia possesses.

This early in his career Weidman also possesses very rudimentary striking and the improvement in that area with Maia could be a turning point in this fight. If Weidman can’t win it standing, will he take Maia down and risk getting submitted? Get the +145 underdog price before it drops. MAIA via submission.
