Budget indicates casinos in Mass. not occurring soon January 30, 2012 7:40 PM by Ray Poirier

A fiscal year budget that begins on July 1 in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts does not include gaming revenues of any kind, thus suggesting that the licensing of three casinos and one racino, permitted by a law passed late last year, will not take place any time soon.

Gov. Deval Patrick submitted his spending plan for the state, purposely taking a pass on what many have described as a future pot of gold.

Selecting winning bidders for the state licenses will be determined by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, a group that is months away from being fully appointed. So far, only the chairman has been named.

Winning bidders are expected to pony up some $80 million dollars before plans become shovel ready.
