Ohio Gov. John Kasich has made his state’s casino program official by signing on to the terms of his deal with the casino operators. The Kansas Star Casino being built by Iowa-based Peninsula Gaming will be bigger than originally planned. State regulators have approved additional space for the gaming floor, hotel and RV park. With an obvious weakening in U.S. credit markets these past few weeks, MTR Gaming Group Inc. (MNTG) has withdrawn its plan to offer $500 million in eight-year notes because of "market conditions." The Shinnecock Indian Nation is lobbying civic groups in the Nassau County neighborhoods seeking support for a casino/hotel complex it would like to build on the grounds of Belmont Park racetrack. The Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS) will report its second quarter financial experience on Tuesday, July 26, at l:30 p.m. Analysts at Sidoti Co. have downgraded the shares of Penn National Gaming Inc. (PENN) from "buy" to "neutral." Flooding of the Missouri River caused a 7 percent decline in business at the St. Jo Frontier Casino in St. Joseph, Missouri, according to the Missouri Gaming Commission. The Missouri Gaming Commission also reported that gaming revenue at the six casinos in the St. Louis area saw an increase of 4 percent in June, from $85.8 million to $89.4 million. It may have been the 34th consecutive decline in monthly revenue but Atlantic City casino operators believed they may have seen "the light at the end of the tunnel" following the report that June’s gambling revenue decline was only 3.7 percent to $276.2 million. Despite all the controversy started by the new owners of Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, the property was granted a license last week by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission. The new owners, Dennis Gomes and Morris Bailey, are focusing on a "sex sells" theme to restore the property to profitability. Meanwhile, the National Geographic Society has designated the Boardwalk at Atlantic City – America’s oldest – as the nation’s best. New York’s Coney Island came in second.
