Boyd Gaming Corp. (BYD), major operator of “locals” casinos in the Las Vegas area, looked to properties in New Jersey and the Midwest and South regions, to help it show a profit during the first fiscal quarter.
The company said it earned $5.9 million or $0.07 per share on revenues of $633.1 million. Last year, it showed a loss of $3.5 million or $0.04 per share on revenues of $564.9 million.
Helping with its quarterly performance was a 33 percent increase in revenues from its Midwest and South properties, including revenues from the newly-acquired Biloxi, Miss., casino.
And despite problems that continue in Atlantic City, the company’s half-owned Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa showed a 4 percent increase in revenues, rising to $176.2 million.
The “locals” properties, the company reported, were relatively unchanged from last year although there was an increase of 2.4 percent enjoyed by the downtown Las Vegas casinos.
