'The Seniors' Event in the WSOP Circuit at Caesars February 07, 2012 3:00 AM by Johnny and Sarah Hale

OK Sarah and I would like to thank all of the seniors who arrived at 10 a.m. at Caesars Palace card room last Sunday to play in a special "The Seniors" Event in the WSOP Circuit Events.

Only about 50 or 60 seniors were expected to come out at that early hour to play in the No Limit Hold’em tourney. Andrew Rich, the director of poker, and his staff had to really work hard to arrange the tables and chairs for the over 200 seniors who came out to play.

Even Bill O. (big floor boss at that early hour and my friend for over 40 years) had to take off his jacket and help arrange all the tables and chairs.

The winner is to receive a special miniature of The Oklahoma Johnny Hale Golden Eagle, which is the permanent trophy of the Championship game of "The Seniors" World Championship of Poker.

This trophy was first won by me in 1995. When I brought The Seniors to the Series in 2001, I decided to make it the permanent trophy of "The Seniors" World Championship of Poker.

You cannot win the Golden Eagle, but if you win The Seniors World Championship of Poker at the WSOP you will have your name inscribed on the back of the trophy.

When possible come by and take a look at the 10 winners who have their names forever inscribed on the trophy. It reads like a who’s-who’s of senior poker.

The Golden Eagle is now on display today in the card room at Caesars and will be in the rotunda of the World Series of Poker at the Rio in June.

Good news for all Senior poker players:

I was contacted by Jack Effel, director of the World Series of Poker, about hosting another senior event in the WSOP. It will be called The Oklahoma Johnny Hale Second Chance Senior Poker Tournament. All players who get unlucky and run out of chips in the Seniors World Championship game can have a second chance to play a little poker with their senior friends without the problems of playing the young whippersnappers.

In addition, the second annual Super Seniors again will be played at Caesars Palace in June. The folks can come to our website www.okjohnny.com for more details about all the scheduled Senior Poker events.

More later. Right now I have to go play some poker!

Our Poker Tip of the Week

We have been trying to keep all of our New Year’s poker resolutions.

Here are just a two of them:

Never play in a no-limit poker game in an unraised pot. There are exceptions to this rule, but players should use the exceptions like porcupines make love – very carefully.

Never play poker with a player named Lucky or Doc who has a state named for him.

Until next time remember that we always Stay Lucky!
