Can player win millions playing on penny slot machine? February 06, 2012 9:50 AM by Staff & Wire Reports

Some players seem to believe that whatever the winning amount shown on a slot machine is the amount that the casino has to pay.

That’s the argument being used by Pauline McKee who says she won $42 million while playing a penny slot machine at the Isle Casino Hotel in Waterloo, Iowa, last July.

When a house executive explained that the machine malfunctioned, the player insisted that the matter be investigated by state inspectors.

A representative of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission checked out the machine, following the woman’s complaint, and determined that the machine did malfunction and that the $42 million jackpot was not valid.

McKee’s lawyers claimed breach of contract and consumer fraud in a lawsuit filed in Black Hawk County District Court.

The lawsuit charges that the casino, owned by Isle of Capri Casinos Inc., knew that programming updates were available and didn’t act on them.

The casino, meanwhile, is standing pat on the determination made by the state gaming regulators.
