After waiting several years since acquiring Scioto Downs, the harness track in Columbus, Ohio, MTR Gaming Group Inc. (MNTG) has received approval to operate video lottery terminals (VLTs) at the facility.
The track, for many years a cash cow for owners Charley and Laverne Hill, saw its popularity diminish as gaming opportunities expanded with the proliferation of casinos and racinos.
Plans for the property call for the installation of 2,125 machines that would be in operation by mid-summer. The company said the addition of the gaming machines will result in the creation of 800 jobs.
