FX and FOX UFC partnership begins January 17, 2012 3:00 AM by Louis D’Andrilli

The UFC makes its first appearance on FX for UFC on FX 1 as it starts its new partnership with FOX.

Gone are the SPIKE TV cards and in are FX, Fuel, and FOX. Top to bottom this card isn’t that thrilling, but the four fights set to air on FX will be great. Remember, this card is on Friday night on FX, not Saturday.

Melvin Guillard vs. Jim Miller: This fight matches two former top contenders coming off a loss. It has huge implications for the winner, and possibly even bigger ones for the loser in a bad way. Miller will be looking to get this fight to the ground as soon as possible, while Guillard needs to keep it standing.

Guillard has shown very weak submission defense in his career and that could be his undoing. I think this fight should be a pick em, so I’ll take a shot with Guillard at +140. Guillard by TKO.

Duane Ludwig vs. Josh Neer: This is an interesting fight in the middle tier of the lightweight division as it matches two traveled veterans of the sport trying to make one last run towards the top. Neer is a strong wrestler with a very aggressive style standing. Ludwig is a win away from a three fight win streak and a potential bout with a top contender.

I don’t think this fight suits him well though. Neer will be able to take the fight to the ground if he wants, and will have a reach advantage standing. I expect a fun fight. Neer via decision.

Mike Easton vs. Jared Papazian: Easton is set to be a very large favorite in this fight as Papazian is making his UFC debut and coming in on short notice. Easton is a beast at 135 lbs. with his wrestling, athleticism, and strength. He has short arms and underwhelming striking, but makes up for it with everything else.

His wrestling and experience will just be too much for Papazian here. Consider Easton nothing more than a parlay filler. Easton via TKO.

Pat Barry vs Christian Morecraft: A very exciting heavyweight fight that will certainly bring fireworks as these two like to strike. Both are coming in off a loss and could be at a crossroads in their careers. Barry is known for his excellent striking but lack of a ground game has cost him a few times in his UFC career.

If Morecraft wants to win, he could take him down and pound him out from top control. I think Morecraft instead gets drawn into a striking match and gets eaten alive standing by the fluid, pure striking of his adversary. Barry via TKO.
