DEL MAR
DE CAR GUY: If you saw this one on the track he was ready to run and Bejarano gave him a nice workout before the start but the only problem was that he made a huge late run but was coming on the outside and the track this day was all inside. He looked like he may have gotten there on the line but P Val just stayed on the rail and stole the decision. De Car Guy will win next time out on a fair strip. $$$$$
CANTONA: Was down on the inside and looked like he was shot out of a cannon when making his move but he had to be steadied hard and then had no place to go, he was steadied once again into the stretch and one more time when crowded in midstretch; he did somehow get up for the show dough but he was probably best in this race.
SYLLABUS: First time starter had to be steadied hard at the start and was also bumped when pinballed between horses, he made a big five wide run into the stretch and came home fast to pick up the show dough, with a clean trip he would have won. This one will be a very good single next time out. $$$$$
KELA’S ASSAULT: First time starter was steadied off heels in the early going and got stuck on the outside the entire trip in what was a better than looked effort. He was claimed by trainer Bob Baffert who doesn’t dig in the claiming box too often so there must be something there; we will take a good shot with this guy next time out. $$$$$
SPRING FORTH: Neil Drysdale comebacker ran a huge figure for a maiden in his first start back in April and did not disappoint in this race at even money. This guy looks to have a big future and is a must watch down the road as he looks like he can run as far as they want him to go.
MEGASPIEL: Was coming off the vets list and looked solid on the track, she got in tight right at the start and was dead last; she did make a nice late run so whatever her problem was it looks like she is okay now and this race did her a lot of good.
JAYCITO: First time Mike Mitchell 2yo ran his eyeballs out but just could not hold off the even money Jerry Hollendorfer trainee Indian Winter. Jaycito was almost six lengths clear of the rest and looks like a solid single next time out. $$$$$
YANKEE STATION: Was trying the grass for the first time and he really did put in a nice late run despite being widest of all coming into the stretch after trailing in tenth until the top of the lane; this guy has some run and will be very tough next time out going long on the main or the grass.
JAILBIRD JIMMY: Looks to be sitting on the win at what should be a good price with the underrated J. Gihua in the irons. This kid can ride so don’t be afraid to take a shot.
Less than seven hours after completing the linking of Pai Gow progressive jackpots at gaming tables for all 10 Station Casinos, a Virginia man hit that progressive with a 7-card straight flush that included a joker. He won more than $200,000.
The New York Giants just completed a startling three-game run through the NFC playoff jungle with a 3-0 mark ATS. By contrast, the New England Patriots enjoyed a first-round bye and home playoff wins over underdogs Denver and Baltimore.
Wynn Las Vegas sports book director Johnny Avello tried to hang on with the Patriots -3 as long as he could, but finally had to give in on Thursday morning when the culmination of Giants money over the first 11 days of action became too much.
From the time we knew who would be playing in the Super Bowl, I’ve always had a lean on the Patriots to win. As great as the Giants have been on their march to the Super Bowl, I still can’t get their bad losses out of my head.
