What a week Las Vegas sports bettors have in store for them. June is typically a dry month for the sports books, where not much is going on and vacations are scheduled by the bosses, but this year has a variety of events on the board to satisfy just about everyone’s need.

The featured event kicks off the week Tuesday with Game Six of the NBA Finals between the Lakers and Celtics as Boston appears to have Kobe Bryant and the Lakers on the ropes with a 3-2 lead. The series has been one of the best the NBA has had to offer in the last 25 years featuring all the drama and intensity of pro basketball from the days that remind many of us why we like the game.

Station Casinos opened Game Six with the Lakers a 6½-point favorite and a total of 187½. The M Resort & Spa re-opened the adjusted series price with the Celtics a minus-120 favorite giving bettors the opportunity to get some real value on the Lakers if they choose so.

When doing the math of what a two-team money line parlay on the Lakers for both games, getting Even money on the Lakers to win two games on spreads of six or higher, there is some value. But the way the defense of the Celtics has played, buyer better beware; it is the true variable of the tempting price.

Making the week more exciting beyond the expected great basketball games is the World Cup. The daily soccer matches have added an excitement level to kick off the day in the sports books that we don’t normally see. To not miss out on the excitement, Green Valley Ranch has been opening their books for betting and viewing four hours earlier than normally at 4 a.m., complete with $1 beer and food specials that include breakfast sandwiches early and hot dogs by 11 a.m.

The M Resort has also extended hours to accommodate soccer fans, and they also offer interactive, in-running wagering, as well as Asian Betting.

If soccer or basketball isn’t your game, hold on, there is more that we can sell you. How about some baseball, and lots of it? Between the College World Series beginning Saturday with odds offered throughout the Vegas Valley books and a lot of interesting MLB Inter-league games there should be enough to keep everyone captivated for the week.

West coast fans get the pleasure of seeing No. 1 ranked Arizona State and No. 6 UCLA from the Pac-10, both making the trip to Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska.

Beginning Tuesday in MLB action, we have a rematch of last year’s World Series with the Phillies visiting the Yankees – the first-place Yankees that is, as they finally caught the Rays for a tie in the AL East.

The Rays matchup against the first-place Braves in a series that wouldn’t be terrible imagining as this year’s final two contenders for the Title. Even the Angels and Brewers carries some level of intrigue as memories of Fred Lynn, Cecil Cooper and Paul Molitor from the 1982 ALCS carries some weight.

The weekend series may even be better as the Subway, Lone Star and Sunshine showdowns all begin for those states to battle it out. The main event of the weekend looks to be Manny Ramirez and the Dodgers making a visit to Fenway Park. This will be Ramirez’s first game at Fenway since being traded in 2008. While he didn’t leave on very good terms, I have a feeling the Fenway faithful are going to give a standing ovation during his first at-bat as a tribute and thank you for his key role in giving the city two World Championships, Boston’s first since 1918.

If all that doesn’t get you going for the week, we still have a little more that should pique your interest. On Thursday the U.S. Open begins at Pebble Beach, one of the most gorgeous, prestigious golf courses in the world, in Carmel, California. It looks like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are listed as 7-to-1 co-favorites at the Las Vegas Hilton Super Book. Woods hasn’t had odds listed that high for a Major since his first year on tour.

Just a little further north up the coast is NASCAR’s first road race of the season in the wine country of Sonoma Valley where we are more than likely to see someone win other than Denny Hamlin or a Busch brother for what would be a first in two months.

All we’re missing this week is a little football, but even though the games aren’t for a few months, action is still on the board. The Golden Nugget unveiled their 200 College Football games of the year Friday and the Hilton has their Pro Football week on games up already.
